Many young footballers think professionals become better simply because they train more.
That isn't true.
Professional players measure their progress.
They know what is improving.
They know what needs work.
If you don't measure your development, you are only guessing.
Here are 10 things every ambitious footballer should track every week.
NUMBER OF TEAM TRAINING SESSIONS
The first question is simple.
Did you attend every training session?
You can't improve if you aren't consistently on the pitch.
Show up.
Every session matters.
EXTRA INDIVIDUAL TRAINING
Team training is important.
But what did you do outside of it?
Track every extra session.
Even 20–30 minutes working on your weak foot or first touch adds up over time.
HOURS OF SLEEP
Recovery is training.
Professional players know that poor sleep affects concentration, reactions and decision-making.
Write down how many hours you sleep every night.
Aim for consistency.
YOUR RECOVERY
Ask yourself after every week:
Did I stretch?
Did I hydrate properly?
Did I recover after matches?
A tired player cannot improve at his maximum level.
MINUTES PLAYED
Matches are your biggest classroom.
Track every minute you play.
If you aren't playing enough, ask yourself why.
Then create a plan to earn more minutes.
GOALS, ASSISTS OR CLEAN SHEETS
Depending on your position, record your most important statistics.
But don't become obsessed with them.
Use them as information, not as your only measure of success.
DUELS WON
Football is full of battles.
Track how many aerial duels, tackles or one-versus-one situations you win.
Professional football rewards players who compete well.
MATCH ANALYSIS
Watch at least one of your matches every week.
Write down:
Three things you did well.
Three things you must improve.
The fastest learners are usually the fastest improvers.
YOUR BODY
Track your body weight.
Notice how your body feels.
Do you have enough energy?
Are you recovering well?
Your body is your workplace.
Take care of it.
ONE SKILL YOU IMPROVED THIS WEEK
This may be the most important point.
Every week, ask yourself:
"What am I better at than seven days ago?"
Maybe your weak foot.
Maybe scanning.
Maybe communication.
Small improvements every week become massive improvements after one year.
FINAL MESSAGE
Most amateur players simply train.
Professional players train, analyze and measure.
That is one of the biggest differences.
Don't leave your development to chance.
Track it.
Study it.
Improve it.
Because what gets measured gets improved.
And the players who take responsibility for their own development are usually the ones who reach the professional level first.
