Many young players do not have an agent.
That means nobody explains how the football market actually works.
You train. You play matches. You dream about becoming professional.
But you may have no idea what clubs, scouts and agents are really looking for.
So here are 7 things I believe every ambitious player should understand as early as possible.
- YOUR LEVEL IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOUR CONTACTS
Players often ask:
“Can you find me a club?”
But the first question should be:
“Am I good enough for the club I want?”
Contacts can open a door.
They cannot keep you inside.
If you want to play two levels higher, first work toward becoming a player who can actually perform two levels higher.
Your development must come before your transfer.
- PLAYING REGULARLY CAN BE MORE VALUABLE THAN HAVING A BIG CLUB NAME
Do not choose a club only because its name looks good on your CV.
Ask:
Will I play?
Will I develop?
Does the coach need a player in my position?
Can I show what I can do?
Sometimes 30 matches at a lower level can move your career forward more than 30 matches on the bench at a bigger club.
You need minutes. You need evidence.
- STOP WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO DISCOVER YOU
An agent is not a magician.
A scout may never randomly appear at your match.
Take responsibility for your career.
Prepare good highlights.
Have full matches available.
Keep your football CV updated.
Know your statistics.
Research realistic clubs.
Build relationships.
Create opportunities instead of waiting for them.
- YOU NEED SOMETHING THAT MAKES CLUBS REMEMBER YOU
Being “quite good at everything” is often not enough.
What is your weapon?
Speed?
1v1?
Goals?
Final pass?
Physical strength?
Defending?
Aerial ability?
Game intelligence?
A scout watches many players.
Give him a reason to remember YOU.
- YOUR REPUTATION IS BEING BUILT EARLIER THAN YOU THINK
Football is a small world.
Coaches talk.
Directors talk.
Agents talk.
Players talk.
People remember how you train, how you react when you do not play, whether you arrive on time and whether they can trust you.
Talent can create interest.
Your character can decide whether people want to work with you again.
- NEVER PAY BLINDLY FOR A “GUARANTEED OPPORTUNITY”
Young players desperate for a chance are easy targets.
Be careful when somebody promises:
“Guaranteed contract.”
“Guaranteed professional trial.”
“Pay first and the club will sign you.”
Before sending money, check the person, club and opportunity.
Ask questions.
Contact the club independently when possible.
A real football career does not need fake shortcuts.
- DON’T SEARCH FOR AN AGENT TO SAVE YOUR CAREER
This may be the most important advice.
Build something worth representing.
Play.
Develop.
Perform.
Collect good match footage.
Become reliable.
Create numbers and evidence appropriate to your position.
Then a good agent can help connect your ability with the right opportunity.
The strongest relationship is not:
“I have no opportunities. Please save me.”
It is:
“I am developing, performing and building my career. Now let’s find the right next step.”

If you do not have an agent, you are not automatically behind.
But you need to understand how football works.
DEVELOP BEFORE YOU DEMAND A TRANSFER.
PLAY BEFORE YOU CHASE STATUS.
BUILD EVIDENCE BEFORE YOU ASK PEOPLE TO BELIEVE IN YOU.
CREATE VALUE BEFORE YOU EXPECT OPPORTUNITIES.
And remember:
A GOOD AGENT CAN HELP MOVE YOUR CAREER FORWARD.
BUT FIRST, YOU HAVE TO GIVE HIM A PLAYER WORTH MOVING FORWARD.
